Ian Dunsmore is the founder and Group Managing Director of Moylan Consulting. 

 

Mr Dunsmore has over 25 years experience of risk management and running complex investigations, 17 of which have been spent in Asia. He moved to Indonesia from the UK in 1998 to join a US based international consulting and investigations company as their operations manager. In 2001 he was promoted to Managing Director assuming the role of country manager for Indonesia. After eight years in Jakarta he was further promoted to Regional Vice President and moved to Singapore to oversee all business operations in Southeast Asia. In 2009 Mr Dunsmore moved on to establish Moylan Consulting.

 

During his Asian tenure he has supervised investigations into banking, insurance and other complex commercial fraud; undertaken forensic audits, due diligence, debt restructuring, intellectual property protection, litigation support and asset tracing. A large proportion of these projects involved coordinating cross-border inquiries in countries throughout the Asia Pacific region as well as Europe and the Americas.   

 

Mr Dunsmore has worked closely with a wide range of clients from several sectors including banking and other financial institutions, oil and gas, mining, construction, manufacturing as well as professional services firms. His extensive knowledge of Asian business markets has been instrumental in assisting clients that have found themselves victims of large scale fraud, extortion or involved in complex and protracted disputes with local partners, shareholders and government bodies. Many of these matters involve working closely with international and local law firms.  

 

Some notable matters have included:

 

  • Managing a complex cross border investigation into an Asian conglomerate which had misappropriated and laundered a USD 84 million loan through a series of fraudulent related party transactions.

 

  • Managing a protracted investigation which uncovered widespread fraud and corruption during the debt restructuring of a USD 58 million syndicated loan.

 

  • Advising and providing investigative support to a client forced into bankruptcy in an emerging market by a complex web of corrupt third parties including the local Judiciary.

 

  • Advising on and providing risk management support to a client on a complex and sensitive equity divestment of USD 1.2 billion involving hostile third parties and government corruption.

 

  • Assisting a client defend a claim for USD 120 million in damages for environmental related losses claimed by  a third party working in collusion with corrupt local government officials in an emerging market.    

 

  • Providing due diligence on a third party for a client considering underwriting a USD 600 million loan facility for a major infrastructure development.

 

Prior to working in Asia Mr Dunsmore spent 10 years in the Metropolitan Police Service headquartered at New Scotland Yard in London.  

 

Mr. Dunsmore holds qualifications in Criminology and Police Studies from the University of Portsmouth, England. He is a Member of the Singapore Institute of Directors.
